On July 28th a friend of mine told me about a contest on the Discovery Channel to win a custom made 'American Chopper' built by the one and only Orange County Choppers. It was right up my alley because you had to submit a three minute video. No problem. The deadline for the contest was only 3 days away. Big problem!!
Well, I felt I was up for the challenge and after talking to my very understanding wife, she agreed to give up our weekend without kids so I could film the video. What a woman! With the help of my good friend Brian Bentley, we came up with an idea, developed a script and started shooting on Saturday July 30th. The deadline for postmarking was Sunday, July 31st. Sunday! How the heck was I going to get this postmarked on a SUNDAY!? One problem at a time, please.
Our idea was simple... imitate the main characters of the show. If I had looked around on the Discovery Channel message boards I probably would have come up with a different idea. But I am glad I didnt because it came out great. I imitated all 3 of the Teutuls under the premise that they were reviewing my video submission and critiquing it along the way. The video was supposed to be 3 minutes long but I went over by about 30 seconds. This may have disqualified me from winning but we had a great time making this video. If you watch the outtakes section you will see that.
